The Anointing and Blessing of God: Heaven meets Earth
The Anointing of God: Being Seen, Empowered, and Aligned with His Plan
When we speak of God’s anointing, we delve into a profound reality: that His presence is transformative, His calling is empowering, and His plan is perfect. Through the lens of Scripture and personal testimony, we see how God’s anointing can change lives, equip us for extraordinary things, and align us with His divine purpose.
A Warm Welcome and an Encounter with God
Imagine walking into a space where you feel genuinely seen and embraced. A coach brought a young man to church, and at the back of the hall, he encountered something he couldn’t explain: peace, a presence, the anointing of God. Though he didn’t fully understand what was happening, it was a moment where heaven met earth.
This story reminds us that our actions and our lives can create such moments for others. A warm welcome can be the first step to someone experiencing God’s presence. Let us be people who embrace others and reflect His love.
David’s Anointing: A Picture of God’s Calling
One of the most powerful illustrations of God’s anointing is found in the story of David. In 1 Samuel 16, we read about Samuel’s mission to anoint a new king for Israel. Grieving over King Saul’s failure, Samuel obeyed God’s command to go to Jesse’s house. As each of Jesse’s sons was presented, Samuel heard the Lord’s voice saying, “These are not the ones.” Finally, David, the youngest son who was tending sheep, was called. When David stood before Samuel, God’s choice was clear.
This moment illustrates a profound truth: God sees beyond appearances. He values the heart over outward qualifications. As 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
God Sees You
Perhaps today you feel overlooked or insignificant. Know this: God sees you. God places immense value on the small and seemingly insignificant in a world that glorifies the big and bold. Just as He chose David, He values the overlooked and elevates those who might otherwise be dismissed.
This principle is evident in Jesus’ teaching. Consider the feeding of the 5,000, where a small boy’s lunch—five loaves and two fish—was placed in Jesus’ hands and multiplied to feed thousands. When we place our little in God’s hands, He does far more than we can imagine.
God Empowers You
When Samuel anointed David, it symbolized the Holy Spirit’s empowerment for the task ahead. Though David was young, inexperienced, and likely overwhelmed, God’s anointing enabled him to fulfil his calling. As 1 Samuel 16:13 states, “The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on.”
This same empowerment is available to us. Jesus promised in John 14:16-17 that the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, would guide us into all truth and never leave us. The Holy Spirit equips us to accomplish what seems impossible. In 2025, you may face challenges that feel beyond your ability, but with God’s anointing, you can achieve far more than you think possible.
God’s Plan for Your Life
God’s anointing aligns us with His plan, but that doesn’t mean the journey will be easy. After being anointed, David waited 17 years before becoming king. Those years were crucial for developing his character and preparing him for the role God had for him.
In the waiting, God is working. He is strengthening you, shaping your character, and aligning you with His perfect timing. Psalm 13 captures David’s cry, “How long, Lord?”—a sentiment many of us can relate to. Yet, through the waiting, God’s plan unfolds perfectly. Trust His timing, for it is always right.
Living in the Anointing
God’s anointing calls us to action. It’s not just about experiencing His presence but about being His presence in the world. With His anointing, we become agents of change, transforming the atmosphere wherever we go. Just as oil carries a fragrance, so does our anointing bring the sweet aroma of Christ to those around us.
As we enter this new year, let’s commit to placing our lives in God’s hands. Let’s trust His plan, lean on His empowerment, and embrace His calling. Whether you feel small, inadequate, or unprepared, know that God sees you, equips you, and has a purpose for your life. Together, let’s welcome His presence and walk boldly in His anointing.
Prayer
Father, we welcome Your presence and Your anointing in our lives. Where there is dryness, let Your Spirit flow. Empower us to be agents of change, carrying Your fragrance wherever we go. Thank You for seeing us, equipping us, and guiding us according to Your perfect plan. We place our lives in Your hands and trust You fully. Amen.
